Medium of instruction should be in mother tongue

By Jomy Jose

English language could be the connecting or link language to the world and mother tongue should be the medium of instruction in primary level to Ph.D level is the successful way of education followed all over the developed nations. This way of teaching will help students to understand the technical concepts and easily catch the practical aspects of the concepts than to study in English medium.A person’s knowledge cannot be determined by the language he/she speaks or studies in.Knowledge is more important than the medium of instruction.English medium education and English language study are extremely different concepts. We need English language but not an education system through English medium .

Government should follow the Three-language formula of language learning formulated by the Union Education Ministry of the Government of India in consultation with the states. The formula was enunciated in the 1968 National Policy Resolution. It provides that children in the Hindi-speaking states are to be taught three languages, namely Hindi, English and local language.
